This course guides students to understand thesis writing, to create a framework for thesis research, and to explore writing strategies. Students perform the early thesis writing tasks in a sequence of manageable stages, including refining a research question, considering an appropriate method, constructing a literature review, and formulating a proposal.
Different from a graduate seminar, this course is more like an intensive practicum, which is oriented toward the concerns of students’ individual projects.
The learning in this class depends on intensive peer collaboration. Most class sessions consist of oral presentations and writing workshops. Students are also required to work closely with their academic advisors in developing proposals and preparing drafts.
